Clyde the thistle mascot will return for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He was a popular mascot during the 2014 Games, which were also held in the city. This time, he will be joined by Finnie the unicorn, the new official mascot for Glasgow 2026.
Clyde was designed by Beth Gilmour when she was 12 years old. During the 2014 Games, he met thousands of visitors and became a familiar sight around Glasgow. People could also find 25 life-size statues of Clyde placed around the city.
Clyde has stayed involved in Commonwealth Games events since then. He carried Scotland’s colours during baton relay events for the Gold Coast Games in 2018 and Birmingham in 2022. Team Scotland officials said Clyde is now part of Scotland’s sporting story.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place from July 23 to August 2. More than 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories will compete. The Games will include 10 sports and six Para sports. Clyde will also help host The Clyde Club at Team Scotland House, where families can watch events, meet athletes and enjoy activities.
