The All Blacks began the new Rugby Nations Championship season with three straight wins, beating France, Italy and Ireland in a strong start under new head coach Dave Rennie. The team’s latest victory came against Ireland at Eden Park in Auckland, where they won 40-21 and extended their remarkable 32-year unbeaten streak at the famous stadium.
The season opened with a tense 34-32 win over France in Christchurch, followed by a much more convincing 47-17 victory against Italy in Wellington. Star winger Will Jordan scored three tries in that match, making him New Zealand’s all-time top try scorer in Test rugby history, overtaking former player Doug Howlett. Halfback Cam Roigard also impressed throughout the campaign, scoring a try in every one of the first three matches.
Against Ireland, the All Blacks scored six tries to secure a bonus-point win and keep them top of the Southern Hemisphere table. Coach Dave Rennie praised his team’s performance, saying it was rare for any side to score forty points against the strong Irish team. Captain Ardie Savea said the players were proud of showing toughness from the very start of the match, rather than letting their opponents score early.
With three wins from three games, the All Blacks now had a short break before turning their attention to their next big challenge, a tour against South Africa in August.
