A small town in Turkey has cooked up the biggest pot of baked beans ever made, setting a new Guinness World Record.

The huge pot of beans was made in Kelkit, in Turkey’s Gümüşhane province, using a local specialty called Kelkit Şeker Fasulyesi. In total, the pot held about 6,840 litres of beans — roughly the same as 15,000 tins.

The record was organised by the Kelkit Chamber of Commerce and Industry, together with local government officials, on 22 August 2026. Their giant pot smashed the previous world record, which held about 5,600 litres of beans.

Organisers said the record was about more than just beans. “This title is a historic achievement for Kelkit, Gümüşhane and our region,” they said. “It represents international recognition of our agricultural heritage.”

They also said the whole town played a part in the achievement. “The record belongs to the entire community,” organisers said.

Local baked beans are a point of pride in the Gümüşhane region, and this record-breaking pot is sure to put the small town on the map for bean lovers everywhere.
