Trumps Portrait to be removed

A painting of President Donald Trump will soon be taken down from the Colorado State Capitol after Trump said it made him look “distorted.” The portrait, which was added in 2019, had been hanging with those of other U.S. presidents.

Republican leaders in the Colorado Legislature asked for the painting to be removed. Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen said it should be replaced with one that shows a more accurate likeness of Trump. The portrait was created by artist Sarah Boardman and paid for by donations from Colorado Republicans, who raised over $10,000.

Although the artist aimed for a neutral and thoughtful look, Trump said he disliked the image so much that he would rather have no picture at all. In a post online, Trump even complimented a nearby portrait of former President Barack Obama, calling it “wonderful.”

Interestingly, Trump’s complaints have brought more attention to the painting. Visitors have recently been coming to take photos with it before it’s taken down. Some said they thought it looked fine, while others noticed small details that stood out to them.

The portrait removal in Colorado will be handled by a committee of both Republican and Democratic lawmakers. They say this decision was about keeping the display accurate and fair.
