The 2026 AIMS Games hockey week began on a rainy Monday, with 105 teams taking part in matches. The weather improved on Tuesday as the teams continued their games. Each team played two pool matches on both Monday and Tuesday.

The results from these games will help decide which teams move into the early knockout rounds on Wednesday.

Quarter-finals and semi-finals will be played on Thursday, before the finals take place on Friday. During Monday and Tuesday, teams from Bucklands Beach Intermediate and St Cuthbert’s College shared their experiences of the competition. Players from both teams said that many of them began playing hockey when they were about seven to nine years old. They also said they had been training for around two months before the AIMS Games.

The players attend several hockey practices each week as they prepare for their matches. Their regular training helps them build skills and work together as a team. With the knockout matches beginning on Wednesday, the teams will now be hoping their hard work leads them closer to Friday’s finals.
