A California city broke a Guinness World Record on May 30 when 1,037 people dressed as Marilyn Monroe gathered in Downtown Palm Springs. The event celebrated what would have been the Hollywood star’s 100th birthday. The impersonators wore her famous white dress from the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch.
The gathering broke the previous record of 254 people dressed as Marilyn Monroe. That record had been set by the Marilyn Jetty Swim Team in Australia in 2020. The Palm Springs event was called Marilyn 100.
The celebration also raised money for Palm Springs Pride. The money helped support the city’s Pride Festival so it could remain free for visitors. Ron deHarte, the president of Palm Springs Pride, said the day was unforgettable and historic for the city.
He also said Marilyn Monroe was remembered for more than her Hollywood glamour. He described her as someone who supported people being true to themselves.
