In a thrilling day of competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Kiwi Kids News has some great highlights.
Cycling:
Our Women’s Team Pursuit cycling team broke a national record with a time of 4:04.679 in the qualifying round. This fantastic performance secured them a spot in the medal race tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Men’s Team Pursuit narrowly missed the top four and will compete for 5th or 6th place.
Sailing:
In sailing, the New Zealand Mixed Multihull team, consisting of Micah Wilkinson and Erica Dawson, advanced to the medal race, finishing their series in fourth place after 12 races. However, the Men’s Dinghy race, featuring Thomas Saunders, was postponed due to a lack of wind. Greta Pilkington ended her Women’s Dinghy campaign in 34th place overall. In kite surfing, Lukas Walton-Keim and Justina Kitchen are currently ranked 15th and 17th, respectively.
Kayakers:
In the water, Kiwi kayakers Lisa Carrington and Alicia Hoskin advanced to the Kayak Double (K2) semi-finals with a strong performance, winning their heat in 1:41.05. Unfortunately, the team of Aimee Fisher and Lucy Matehaere did not make it past the quarter-finals. The Women’s Kayak Four (K4) team advanced directly to the finals after dominating their heat in 1:32.40. The Men’s K4 team also progressed to the semi-finals, finishing second in their quarter-final. The Men’s K2 team barely made it to the semi-finals, placing fourth in a close photo finish, while the Men’s Canoe Double did not advance.
Speed Climbing:
Julian David secured a place in the Men’s Speed Climbing final, achieving a personal best of 5.20 seconds in his elimination race against Reza Alipour Shenazandifard from Iran.
Athletics:
In athletics, Maia Ramsden qualified for the Women’s 1500m semi-finals. She finished sixth in her heat with a time of 4:02.83, showcasing her speed and determination.
