Runners taking part in next weekend’s Sydney Marathon will get a medal with a mistake on it — a stadium from Germany instead of Sydney.
The medal was meant to show the Sydney Football Stadium, but organisers accidentally used a picture of the Allianz Arena in Munich instead.
People online quickly spotted the error among the medal’s other Sydney landmarks, like the Harbour Bridge, Sydney Tower Eye and St Mary’s Cathedral.
Sydney Marathon organisers admitted the mistake, saying “a little too much international flavour” had found its way onto the medal.
Because the marathon is only a week away, organisers said there won’t be a replacement medal.
The front of the medal features a blue and white Indigenous design by First Nations artist Ambrose Killian, who said he had nothing to do with the mistake on the back.
A record 40,000 runners are expected to take part in the marathon on Sunday, 30 August.
