A Lotto player from Auckland has won an incredible $44.7 million, setting a new record for the largest prize ever won on a single ticket in New Zealand’s national lottery history.

The lucky winner purchased the ticket on MyLotto and has now come forward to claim the prize.

This record-breaking win comes from Saturday night’s Powerball draw. The ticket-holder not only won the $44 million Powerball prize but also an additional $666,670 from Lotto, surpassing the previous record of $44.06 million won by a Hibiscus Coast couple in 2016.

The huge total amount is due to a unique aspect of the winner’s ticket. They played 10 lines with the same Lotto numbers, each paired with a different Powerball number from one to ten. This resulted in winning not just the Powerball First Division but also 10 shares of the Lotto First Division.

Lucy Fullarton, head of corporate communications at Lotto NZ, expressed excitement about the win, saying, “All of that adds up to the largest ever prize won on a single ticket in Lotto NZ history. We’re so excited for our newest multi-millionaire and can’t wait to meet them.”

Lotto NZ plans to support the new winner through this life-changing event and will share more details in the coming days.
