Silver Ferns shooter Grace Nweke has announced that she will be moving to Australia to play for the New South Wales Swifts next year. This decision means she will not be eligible for the New Zealand national netball team, the Silver Ferns, during her time in Australia.

Netball New Zealand confirmed that Nweke will still be able to compete in the 2024 international season due to her current commitment with the Mystics. The organisation’s board chair, Matt Whineray, expressed respect for her decision, acknowledging the difficulty of the choice.

Nweke, 22, emphasised the importance of maintaining strong relationships and open communication throughout this process. She also acknowledged that when she returns to the Silver Ferns, she will need to earn her spot again.

Standing 1.92 meters tall, Nweke has been a vital player for the Silver Ferns, contributing to their bronze medal win at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The netball community is looking forward to her return in time for future major tournaments like the Commonwealth Games and the 2027 Netball World Cup.
