Ryan Fox of New Zealand won the British Open after making a brilliant birdie on the final hole at Royal Birkdale. The exciting finish happened on Sunday, giving the 39-year-old golfer his first major championship title. Fox finished with a score of 2-under 68 for the day and won by one shot. His final 12-foot putt was enough to lift the famous Claret Jug.

The tournament was full of excitement because five different players shared the lead during the final round. American golfer Cameron Young waited for more than two hours after finishing his round, hoping his score would be enough to win. Fox stayed calm even after making two bogeys on the back nine. He birdied the 16th hole to catch Young and then made another birdie on the difficult final hole to seal the victory.

After the winning putt, Fox raised his arms in celebration and later called his family. He happily told them, “You asked me to bring a trophy home, and I am, aren’t I?” Fox became only the fourth New Zealander to win a major golf championship. His name will now join Sir Bob Charles, who won the British Open in 1963.

Several other players came close to winning. Sam Burns lost his lead after struggling on the final holes, while defending champion Scottie Scheffler finished tied for fourth place with Tommy Fleetwood. Bryson DeChambeau also had a difficult day after making a triple bogey on the 11th hole. Before this victory, Fox’s biggest success was winning the BMW PGA Championship in 2023, making this the greatest achievement of his golfing career.
