Domino’s long-time CEO Don Meij is stepping down after two decades at the top.
Meij, who started as a pizza delivery driver in Queensland, Australia, grew the company into a global powerhouse with thousands of stores and billions in sales. His retirement was announced on Tuesday on the Australian Stock Exchange.
Meij’s journey with Domino’s began nearly 40 years ago. After 22 years as CEO, he will spend the next year helping with the transition as Mark van Dyck, a seasoned executive from Compass Group, takes over the role starting November 6.
Reflecting on his career, Meij shared his surprise at how far he had come, saying, “Domino’s really has been my life.” When he started, Domino’s had just 387 stores and made about $300 million in sales. Under his leadership, the company expanded to 3,700 stores worldwide, with annual sales soaring to nearly $4 billion.
Meij’s journey from pizza driver to CEO is a reminder of how big dreams and hard work can lead to remarkable success.
