Mexico smashes record for World’s Biggest Guacamole

A small city in Mexico has broken a Guinness World Record by mixing up nearly 15,000 pounds of guacamole in one giant bowl.

The record was set at the 13th annual Avocado Festival in Tancítaro, in the state of Michoacán. More than 1,000 local growers and residents worked together to mix the enormous batch, finishing in just under two and a half hours.

The final weight came in at 6,800 kilograms. That is enough guacamole to fill about three average-sized cars.

The previous record of 4971 kg had been set in 2022 by the nearby city of Peribán, also in Mexico. Interestingly, Tancítaro had held the record before that, so reclaiming the title was a big deal for the community.

Raul E. Martínez Pulido, president of a major Mexican avocado industry group, said the achievement was about more than just guacamole. He said it represented the hard work of thousands of farming families whose lives depend on growing avocados.

Tancítaro is at the heart of one of the world’s most important avocado-growing regions. This season, more than 2.5 billion pounds of Mexican avocados were sent to the United States market, making it a historic year for the industry.

The record has been officially confirmed by Guinness World Records.
