Tampa International Airport in the United States surprised travellers this week when it posted online that it wanted to ban people from wearing pyjamas at the airport.
The message, shared on Thursday on the social media platform X, quickly spread and was viewed millions of times. However, airport officials soon explained that the idea was only a joke.
The post said the airport had already gone “Crocs-free” and had “seen enough” of pyjamas. It added, “The madness stops today. The movement starts now.” Many people joined the online debate, sharing their thoughts about what is suitable to wear when flying.
Beau Zimmer, a spokesperson for the airport, said the message was part of its playful online style. For more than ten years, the airport has used light-hearted jokes to connect with travellers. Zimmer explained that regular followers understand the humour and enjoy it.
Even Sean Duffy reacted to the post with a funny image from the television show The Office, showing actor John Krasinski agreeing enthusiastically.
Later that day, the airport released a statement confirming that travellers are welcome to dress comfortably. Officials said the post was meant to be a fun comment on fashion choices at airports.
