The Silver Ferns, New Zealand’s national netball team, have claimed the Taini Jamison Trophy after defeating South Africa 70–58 in Napier on Wednesday night. This victory, combined with their earlier win in Auckland, gave them a 2–0 series lead.

The second match started off tough for the Silver Ferns. South Africa took an early lead and won the first quarter 15–14, surprising the home crowd. But New Zealand found their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring South Africa 20–13 and taking a 34–28 lead into half-time.

The third quarter was closely contested, with both teams scoring goal for goal. However, the Silver Ferns pushed ahead in the final minutes, ending the quarter with a strong 53–42 advantage.

Shooter Grace Nweke was the star of the night, scoring an incredible 60 goals. She worked closely with her teammates, encouraging quick passes into the shooting circle. Stand-in captain Kelly Jackson also played a key role, making important interceptions throughout the game.

A special moment came in the final quarter when Filda Vui made her debut for the Silver Ferns, playing at goal attack.

With this win, the Silver Ferns have successfully defended the Taini Jamison Trophy.

The guide at the Auckland War Memorial Museum lowered her voice as she led the group into the gallery. ‘Please keep to the left,’ she said, ‘and do not touch the display cases.’ She paused beside a model waka carved from pale timber. Although the room was crowded, the children became quieter as they read the labels. One boy raised his hand, but before he could speak, his teacher pointed to the sign near the entrance: no food or drink beyond this point. The guide smiled when everyone stayed together and moved slowly from one display to the next.
