Elephant walks into grocery store

A wild elephant named Plai Biang Lek walked into a grocery store in Thailand on Monday, looking for something to eat. The 27-year-old elephant lives in Khao Yai National Park but is known for wandering into nearby areas. This time, he stepped inside a store for the first time.

The elephant helped himself to a feast that included eggs, dried bananas, a sandwich, and nine bags of sweet rice crackers. The store is located just over half a mile from the park’s entrance. Local people often see Plai Biang Lek walking by, but this visit was a surprise.

Park rangers arrived quickly to guide the elephant safely back to the park. No one was hurt during the visit.

Members of the Khao Yai Elephant Lovers Group gave the store around $25 to cover the cost of the food. The shop owner said he wasn’t upset, explaining that the elephant must have just been very hungry.
