In Sinaloa, Mexico, officials have decided not to allow Halloween costumes this year to help keep people safe.
Local leaders are asking residents not to wear masks, costumes, or carry fake weapons, since they might be mistaken for people involved in crime.
The troubles began in late July when one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel was arrested, causing a series of violent events. Since then, hundreds of people have been affected, and the government has sent extra soldiers to the area to help keep the peace.
Gerardo Merida, Sinaloa’s security secretary, explained that these costume restrictions are to help people avoid any danger. He also hopes it will prevent young people from seeing criminals as heroes. The government wants everyone to stay safe and avoid being on the streets too late at night.
This isn’t the first time Sinaloa has placed limits on Halloween. Other states in Mexico, such as Baja California and Sonora, have also done the same in past years for safety reasons.
