Super Blue Moon in our sky

A special astronomical event is coming up this month — a Super Blue Moon!

On Monday, August 19, 2024, the night sky will host this rare sight, which will appear full for three days. A Supermoon happens when the Moon is closest to Earth, making it look up to 15% brighter and 30% bigger than a regular full Moon.

But that’s not all! This Supermoon is also a Blue Moon. A Blue Moon can refer to the third full moon in a season with four full moons, or it can be the second full moon in a single calendar month. The next Blue Moon like this won’t happen until 2026.

To see this Super Blue Moon, you’ll want a clear night with little cloud cover, away from bright city lights. While no special tools are needed, binoculars can help you get an even closer look.

So, keep your eyes on the sky and enjoy this extraordinary event!
