Sinner and Keys win Australian Open

The Australian Open 2025 crowned two champions over the weekend, as Jannik Sinner and Madison Keys claimed the men’s and women’s singles titles.

Sinner retained his title with a 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 victory over Germany’s Alexander Zverev, becoming the first Italian to win three Grand Slam titles. Meanwhile, Keys triumphed in an emotional three-set battle, defeating Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 to claim her maiden Grand Slam trophy.

Under the lights at Rod Laver Arena, Sinner’s performance left little room for drama.

The 23-year-old world No. 1 broke Zverev’s serve at crucial moments, with his backhand sealing the victory. This marked Zverev’s third loss in a Grand Slam final, extending his quest for a major title. Sinner, now Italy’s most decorated tennis player, celebrated by climbing into the stands to embrace his team.

On the women’s side, Madison Keys made history as the oldest first-time Grand Slam champion in a decade at 29 years old. She defeated two-time defending champion Sabalenka in a thrilling match full of momentum shifts. Despite a second-set resurgence by Sabalenka, Keys held her nerve in a tense third set, breaking serve in the final game to secure the victory after two hours of play.

“I have wanted this for so long,” Keys said, thanking her team for their unwavering belief. Her journey to the title included five wins over seeded players, including a dramatic semi-final comeback against world No. 2 Iga Swiatek.

For Sabalenka, the loss ended her bid for a historic third consecutive Australian Open title. She graciously congratulated Keys, acknowledging the American’s extraordinary performance.
