Kiwi Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson finished ninth in the United States Grand Prix, held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, on 26 October 2026.
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli won the race from pole position, picking up his ninth win of the season.
Lawson, who races for Racing Bulls, started the 56-lap race in ninth place and held his position the whole way, managing to stay just ahead of Alpine’s Pierre Gasly.
“When everyone finishes, for us it’s a P9 or P10. That’s sort of the best we can do,” Lawson said afterwards. “We executed really well today, had a great race, so couldn’t really do more.”
The result means Lawson stays ninth in the overall drivers’ championship standings, with 77 points, well ahead of Gasly in tenth.
The race was also an important step in a thrilling title race. Antonelli, who is only 20 years old, is closing in on becoming the youngest Formula 1 world champion ever. He needed to finish 125 points ahead of second-placed George Russell to win the title in Austin, but fell just one point short.
The championship battle will continue at the next race, the Mexican Grand Prix, where Antonelli will get another chance to seal the title.
