Could we be seeing the new leader of North Korea?
The 10-year-old is the daughter of the leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kim Jong-Un. She made her first appearance in November 2022 and has been seen at five public events so far.
A daughter accompanying her father to an event wouldn’t normally be unusual, but this is North Korea, one of the most secretive countries in the world – so a lot of people want to know more about her.
Who is the leader of North Korea?
The Supreme Leader of North Korea is Kim Jong-Un and he is the third member of the Kim family to rule North Korea since 1948. Both his grandfather Kim Il-Sung and his father Kim Jong-Il were in charge of North Korea.
North Korea is a dictatorship which means the people don’t get to choose the leader of the country. There are also strict rules on what you can and can’t say and people who oppose the people in power are punished.
In the past, Kim Jong-Un is also famously secretive about his family, so when a young daughter who people hadn’t seen before started appearing at public events, there was a lot of interest. She is believed to be about 10 years old and is called Ju Ae.
