The 95th Annual Academy Awards took place yesterday, and it was a star-studded event. The best movies and actors from the past year were all vying for the top prize – an Oscar!
The biggest movie of the year, Everything Everywhere All At Once, won five Oscars! It was named the Best Picture, and the actors and director also took home awards. Brendan Fraser won Best Actor for his role in The Whale – congratulations!
New Zealand’s very own Wētā FX won Best Visual Effects for their amazing work on Avatar: The Way of Water. This blockbuster was filmed right here in Aotearoa!
There were lots of amazing movies and talented actors nominated this year. Some of the other big movies included The Banshees of Inisherin, All Quiet On The Western Front, Top Gun: Maverick, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Last year, New Zealand did really well at the Oscars, but this year there were fewer local movies in the running. But we can still be proud of Wētā FX for their amazing work!
