Although Halloween began long ago in Europe, it has become a fun and exciting event for families around the world.
Halloween has its roots in an old Celtic festival called Samhain. People believed that on this night, the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred, and spirits could return to Earth. To scare them away, people lit bonfires and wore costumes. Later, as Christianity spread, the day became known as All Hallows’ Eve, which is now commonly referred to as Halloween.
In New Zealand, Halloween has gained popularity over the past few decades. Supermarkets stock Halloween-themed sweets, and some neighbourhoods decorate their homes with cobwebs, skeletons, and glowing lights.
