Football to trial sin-bin

Plans to introduce 10-minute sin-bins for cynical fouls and dissent in football have been recommended for professional game trials.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB), the game’s lawmakers, stated it will determine the best levels for testing.

The trial will also limit approaching the referee during a game to only the team captain.

While sin-bins have been tested at grassroots levels since 2019, these proposals, subject to approval in March 2024, are expected to involve professional football.

The trials aim to reduce dissent and tactical fouls, enhancing respect and fair play.
