The Black Caps have been beaten easily by England in the first test in Mount Maunganui.

A severe batting collapse in the second innings of the first cricket test saw New Zealand reduced to 5 for 28 runs.

Stuart Broad was the main destroyer, clean bowling the first three New Zealand batsmen – Devon Conway, Tom Latham and Kane Williamson. He then collected the wicket of Tom Blundell and finished with 4 wickets along with Jimmy Anderson.

Earlier England had set New Zealand 393 runs for victory after they scored 374 in their second innings with Joe Root top scoring with 57.

During the test England captain Ben Stokes broke the record for the most sixes overall in test cricket after hitting his 108th on day three.

Stokes surpassed England coach and former New Zealand Brendon McCullum’s mark.

The second test in Wellington will start on Friday with the red ball.
