The New Zealand Breakers basketball team has sealed a home semifinal after beating Brisbane in their final game of the season.

A crucial play from captain Tom Abercrombie saw his team complete an 80-75 overtime win over Brisbane in Brisbane.

The result means the Breakers finished with 5 straight wins in basketball’s NBL to finish second overall behind the Sydney Kings. This means that they advance straight to the semifinals, where they will have a home-court advantage.

The season result is a great turnaround for the team which only won 5 games in 2021-22.

It is the first time the Breakers have been in the playoffs since they won their last NBL title in 2015. They will play the winner of the third versus fourth playoff between Cairns and Tasmania.
