Barbie has been all over our televisions since the movie was announced back at the start of the year, from influencers creating Barbie-themed products to singers making Barbie songs. The Barbie movie came out in Aotearoa cinemas on July 22, making everyone eagerly wait.
The main two actors are Margot Robbie (who plays Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (who plays Ken). These two actors really shape the movie and bring it to life. The story starts in Barbie World, where Barbie is living the best life. But one day, Barbie wakes up and finds out that her world is not-so-perfect. She has to travel to the real world and solve her mystery problem while Ken wreaks havoc on Barbie World.
Decked out with theatrical performances, bright props, pop songs, and almost everything in between, The Barbie Movie was not disappointing. Packed with witty jokes, outstanding costumes and sets, hilarious characters, and state-of-the-art actors, The Barbie Movie is not one to miss.
However, the movie fell short a little when it came to the storyline and themes. Two of the main ideas that were put in place for the movie were the fight for feminist rights and the whole “Barbie World” idea. But these ideas got drained out as it became a bit too busy with other smaller themes. By the end all of the themes were trying to fight for the spotlight that it meant the main storylines were lost.
In conclusion, the new Barbie Movie is not one to miss. However, if you love engaging storylines and deep plots, save your money and stay at home.
