Auckland FC made a perfect start to their A-League journey, defeating Brisbane Roar 2-0 in front of a lively crowd at Mount Smart Stadium. The victory marked a strong debut for the new club, filling fans with hope for the season ahead.

The game’s first goal came just eight minutes in, thanks to an own goal by Brisbane defender Harry van der Saag. After Auckland’s Logan Rogerson and captain Hiroki Sakai created pressure in the box, van der Saag accidentally sent the ball into his own net.

Auckland dominated much of the match, with their solid defence keeping Brisbane from finding any rhythm. In the 74th minute, Rogerson sealed the victory by scoring a second goal, earning a standing ovation when he was substituted soon after.

Brisbane struggled to break through Auckland’s defence, and goalkeeper Alex Paulsen, returning from a stint with AFC Bournemouth, made sure to deny them any comeback chances.

This new club is Auckland’s third attempt at professional football, following earlier efforts with the Kingz and the New Zealand Knights. Coached by former Sydney FC champion Steve Corica, Auckland FC now aims to leave a lasting mark in the league.

The team’s ownership group features notable figures, including American businessman Bill Foley and sports stars like Winston Reid, Tim Brown, Ali Williams, and NBA player Steven Adams.

With this exciting debut, Auckland FC’s fans are hopeful their club will become a force in the A-League.
