A horse gave police in Santa Fe, in the United States, quite the workout after it escaped just before a parade was due to start.
The horse bolted before the Desfile de La Gente parade began on Sunday, 20 September 2026, forcing the Santa Fe Police Department into action.
Officers on motorcycles and bicycles, animal services staff, and even a drone operator all joined the search. A group of local cowboys also helped chase the runaway horse down.
The horse was finally cornered and caught on Canyon Road. Its owner arrived to collect it, and the horse was walked back to the parade’s starting point in time for a quick drink of water before the parade got underway.
No one, human or horse, was hurt during the chase.
The Santa Fe Police Department later thanked everyone involved, saying: “A job well done by all involved and thank you to our community members on the road that yielded to the horse and motorcycles.”
The parade went ahead as planned, with one four-legged latecomer arriving just in time.
