New Zealand will host its first State of Origin rugby league match when the Blues and Maroons meet at Auckland’s Eden Park on 16 June 2027. The match will be Game Two of the series between the New South Wales Blues and Queensland Maroons. It will be the first time the famous rivals have played a State of Origin match in New Zealand.

The event is being supported by the New Zealand Government and Auckland Council. Fans can now pre-register for tickets through the NRL, with tickets expected to officially go on sale in November. Thousands of Australian fans are expected to travel across the Tasman Sea for the match.

Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston said the event could give Auckland’s economy a boost of about $17.4 million. More than 10,000 visitors from Australia are expected to come to New Zealand for the game. This could mean more people staying in hotels, eating at restaurants and visiting attractions.

State of Origin is one of the biggest events in Australian rugby league. The series has traditionally been played in New South Wales and Queensland, so bringing a match to New Zealand will make the 2027 series a special occasion for local fans.
