Brazilian skateboarding champion Sandro Dias has made history by riding his skateboard down a massive 21-storey building in Porto Alegre, Brazil. With this incredible feat, he broke two Guinness World Records: the highest drop ever made on a skateboard (60 metres) and the fastest speed reached on a temporary quarter pipe (103 km/h).
The 50-year-old, known for winning six world titles in vert (halfpipe) skateboarding, skated down a specially built mega ramp attached to the side of the building. The breathtaking ride took just eight seconds and was backed by a professional safety team to ensure everything went smoothly.
Dias first saw the curved side of the CAFF government building in the 1980s and imagined it as a skate ramp. Years later, he turned that dream into a real project with help from sponsor Red Bull.
To prepare, Dias trained for months—lifting weights, using weighted vests, and even skateboarding while being towed by a car at 136 km/h. He said staying calm and focused was key, even when facing such a huge challenge.
After completing the record-breaking ride, he raised his arms in triumph before landing safely on crash pads.
“Skateboarding is my life,” Dias said. “Retiring doesn’t even cross my mind. There are still many adventures ahead.”
