Leroy Carter, a rookie rugby player, had an unexpected problem right before leaving for Argentina with the All Blacks, his dog chewed up his passport!
The accident happened at his home just days before the team was set to travel for the opening matches of the Rugby Championship in August 2025.
Carter, who plays for the Hamilton-based Chiefs, was one of four new players chosen by coach Scott Robertson to join the famous All Blacks squad. He was still getting used to the exciting news when trouble struck.
While preparing for the trip, Carter left his passport on the bedside table after taking a photo of it for the team manager. That’s when his dog snuck into the room, jumped on the bed, and chewed up the passport.
“It was a bit of a mess,” Carter admitted. He rushed to get an emergency passport but stayed calm through it all. “I thought it would happen to me, something like that, so no point getting stressed.”
Luckily, the issue seems to be fixed, and Carter is ready to fly with the team. The All Blacks will play Argentina in Córdoba on August 17 and again in Buenos Aires on August 24. The Rugby Championship also includes teams from Australia and South Africa.
