Police in the Swiss town of Konzig were surprised to discover a duck caught flying too fast through a speed zone.
On April 13, a radar camera captured a mallard flying at 52 kilometres per hour in an area where the speed limit is only 30 kilometres per hour.
The radar photo showed the bird mid-flight, as if it were a car breaking the rules. Even more amazingly, a duck that looked just like it had been caught at the same place, at the same speed, exactly seven years earlier.
Local officials shared the story on their Facebook page over the weekend. At first, they wondered if it was an April Fool’s prank or a fake image. But experts confirmed the photo and radar system were real and accurate.
Switzerland’s Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) tests these radar systems every year. The photos are sealed and cannot be edited. This means the speedy mallard really did break the limit!
The town joked that the duck might be a “repeat offender.” While it won’t receive a fine, it certainly gave the police something to quack about.
