New Zealand Rugby remains optimistic about its financial future despite losing a major sponsorship deal with petrochemical company Ineos.
Ineos, whose logo appears on the All Blacks’ shorts and training gear, has been accused of failing to pay part of its 2025 sponsorship fee. As a result, NZR has started removing the company’s branding from its team kits.
NZR boss Mark Robinson, speaking ahead of a trip to the UK, reassured fans that the organisation remains in a strong position. He stated that other sponsors have already shown interest in stepping in and that existing partners continue to support NZR. Robinson emphasised that sponsorship revenue has doubled in recent years, growing from $55 million in 2019 to about $120 million today.
The dispute with Ineos could end in court, but Robinson remains focused on the future. NZR is also searching for a new technology partner after its deal with SAP ended last year. Meanwhile, French transport company Altrad remains a key sponsor despite past legal issues involving its owner.
Despite financial challenges, there is plenty for rugby fans to look forward to. The All Blacks are planning an extended tour of South Africa next year, and they will also host the Springboks in 2030. This September, South Africa will play two Rugby Championship matches in New Zealand, including a highly anticipated clash at Eden Park, where the All Blacks have not lost since 1994. The French national team will also visit for a three-Test series in July, and the Black Ferns will defend their World Cup title in England this August.
