The 67th Grammy Awards took place last night in Los Angeles, celebrating the best in music.
The event featured performances from stars like Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan and also raised over $7 million to support those affected by the LA wildfires. Some of the biggest winners included Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, and Sabrina Carpenter.
Beyoncé made history by winning Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter, a category she had never won before despite holding the record for the most Grammy wins. She also took home Best Country Album, which was handed to her by Taylor Swift. In her speech, Beyoncé encouraged artists to explore different musical styles, saying, “Genre is a code word to keep us in place.” Her total Grammy count now stands at 35 wins and 99 nominations.
Kendrick Lamar also had a huge night, taking home five awards, including Record of the Year. Sabrina Carpenter won Best Pop Solo Performance for Espresso and Best Pop Album for Short n’ Sweet. British singer Charli XCX claimed three prizes, including Best Dance/Pop Album.
Newcomer Chappell Roan won Best New Artist, using her speech to call for better pay and healthcare for musicians. Meanwhile, Doechii won Best Rap Album for Alligator Bites Never Heal, marking only the third time a woman has won that category since 1989.
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, while Alicia Keys received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Some artists, however, went home without a trophy. Despite six nominations, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish did not win any awards this year.
