This victory makes New Zealand the first team ever to win a three-Test series in India, a challenging feat on Indian soil. Star spinner Ajaz Patel took 6-57, with Glenn Phillips adding 3-42, as India was bowled out for 121 in their chase of 147 runs.
India’s resistance came mostly from Rishabh Pant, who scored 64 runs off 57 balls, including nine fours and a six, but his efforts couldn’t prevent the team’s collapse. The Indian team’s performance in this series was a rare low, marking their first home series defeat by a 3-0 margin. Their previous worst home series loss was 2-0 against South Africa in 2000.
In the earlier matches, New Zealand won by eight wickets in Bengaluru and by 113 runs in Pune, securing their first-ever Test series win in India. In this final match, India’s batting struggles continued as they lost several key players early on, including skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel became the most successful foreign bowler at the Wankhede Stadium, with an impressive 23 wickets across four innings at the venue.
