The White Ferns have reached the semifinals of the T20 World Cup for the first time since 2016, with a crucial 54-run win over Pakistan.
Despite a low score of 110 for six, New Zealand’s bowlers dominated, dismissing Pakistan for just 56, the second-lowest total in Women’s T20 World Cup history.
The win came after Pakistan dropped several catches, allowing Suzie Bates and Brooke Halliday to top score for New Zealand.
Pakistan needed to chase the target in 10.4 overs to qualify but fell short, losing their last five wickets for just four runs. Amelia Kerr took 3-14, and Eden Carson added 2-7 to secure the victory.
Now, the White Ferns will face either England or the West Indies in the semifinals. Despite a tough lead-up to the tournament, captain Sophie Devine is confident in her team’s ability to challenge the best teams.
“We can beat any team in the world,” said Devine, proud of her team’s resilience as they prepare for the next stage.
