Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, telling his supporters that the country is on the verge of a “golden age.”

Speaking to a cheering crowd at a convention centre in Palm Beach, he described this as a “magnificent victory for the American people.” Although votes are still being counted in several key states, Trump is projected to be close to securing the electoral votes needed to win the presidency.

World leaders were quick to respond, congratulating Trump on his return to office. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed excitement, calling it “history’s greatest comeback,” while French President Emmanuel Macron said he looked forward to collaborating with Trump again. Leaders from New Zealand, including Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, also extended congratulations.

In his speech, Trump emphasised that his victory represents a strong mandate from the American people. With Republicans retaining control of the Senate, he promised to help the country heal after what he called a divisive election. According to exit polls, Trump gained support from Hispanic and lower-income voters, groups that have traditionally supported Democratic candidates.

Kamala Harris, Trump’s Democratic opponent, has yet to address her supporters. Although the Associated Press has not officially called the race, it is widely believed that Harris has almost no path to victory. Trump is currently leading in remaining swing states, including Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada, where ballots are still being counted.
