New Zealand’s America’s Cup dream is over after losing the final race of the 34th America’s Cup.
Defenders Oracle Team USA won their eighth straight race to complete one of sport’s greatest comebacks.
Trailing by 1-8 a week ago, Oracle found much needed speed on their boat and since then have been faster then the Kiwis.
In the final race NZ skipper Dean Barker had port-entry advantage at the start and led past the first and second buoys. However, on the upwind leg New Zealand had no answer for the speed of Oracle.
The result was doubly hard for New Zealand who were about a minute away from lifting the Cup last Saturday, when they had a certain win ruled out for exceeding the time limit.
Oracle skipper Jimmy Spithal was humble in his victory today, saying this about Team New Zealand.
