Rory McIlroy has won the Masters golf tournament for the second year in a row after his victory on 13 April 2026 in Augusta, Georgia, in the United States. The Northern Irish golfer finished on 12 under par, one shot ahead of world number one Scottie Scheffler. His win means he is now only the fourth man ever to win the Masters back-to-back.
The Masters is one of the four biggest tournaments in golf, known as the majors. It is held every year at Augusta National Golf Club, where the winner is given the famous Green Jacket. After his victory, McIlroy said he could hardly believe he had waited 17 years to win one jacket and now had two in a row.
He said it was especially joyful because his family were there to watch him. McIlroy said it was only the second major tournament his mum had seen him win, and that they were all going to celebrate together. The Green Jacket was presented to him by the chairman of Augusta National.
McIlroy finished the final round with a score of 71, which was enough to hold off Scheffler by a single stroke. His second straight Masters title places him alongside golf legends Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods. They are the only other players to have won the tournament in back-to-back years.
The win is another huge moment in McIlroy’s career. It also adds his name to a very small group of golfers in Masters history.
