Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League on Saturday after beating Arsenal 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out in Budapest. The final ended 1-1 after extra time, before Eberechi Eze and Gabriel missed penalties for Arsenal. PSG’s victory gave them back-to-back Champions League titles.
Arsenal made a strong start when Kai Havertz scored after just six minutes. PSG found it hard to break through Arsenal’s organised defence for much of the match. However, Ousmane Dembele scored a penalty in the second half to make the score level.
The game went to extra time, but neither team could find a winning goal. In the shoot-out, PSG held their nerve better than Arsenal. Gabriel’s final missed penalty handed the trophy to the French club.
The win made PSG only the second team, after Real Madrid, to win the competition in consecutive years during the Champions League era. Coach Luis Enrique also celebrated his third Champions League success as a manager. For Arsenal, it was another painful final defeat, 20 years after they lost to Barcelona in 2006.
