The Premier League is back, promising an exciting season filled with new teams, big signings, and extended game time.

Champions Manchester City started the new campaign with a 3-0 win against newly-promoted Burnley. They are aiming for their sixth Premier League title in seven years.

This summer has been eventful, with a £100 million (NZ$212 million) signing and numerous player transfers, including some top stars leaving for the Saudi Pro League.

Three teams from the Championship have moved up to the Premier League: Burnley, Sheffield United, and Luton Town. While promoted teams face challenges, Burnley’s strong performance in the Championship and their young manager Vincent Kompany give them hope.

Sheffield United returns to the Premier League after two years, and Luton Town, playing in the Premier League for the first time, has had an inspiring journey through the divisions.

The transfer market has been busy, with big-name signings like Declan Rice to Arsenal for £100 million and various moves by Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and others. However, several top players have also left for the Saudi Pro League.

Mauricio Pochettino returns to England as Chelsea’s manager, and Ange Postecoglou takes over at Tottenham. Wolves appointed Gary O’Neil after parting ways with Julen Lopetegui.

Fans can expect longer game times this season, with referees adding stoppage time for various reasons, potentially extending matches by around 10 minutes. This change aims to provide more action for viewers but might challenge players’ endurance.
