Day 9 of the Paris 2024 Olympics was eventful for the New Zealand team, with athletes competing in golf, shooting, hammer throw, sailing, cycling, and kayak slalom. Here’s a look at how the Kiwis performed in these events.
Sailing in Marseille:
The Kiwi sailors had a strong showing in Marseille. Micah Wilkinson and Erica Dawson are currently in second place after six races in the Mixed Multihull event. In kite surfing, Lukas Walton-Keim is in 14th place, while Justina Kitchen holds the 15th spot after four races each. In dinghy racing, Thomas Saunders is in 17th place and Greta Pilkington is in 28th after eight races.
Cycling Road Race:
In the Women’s 158 km Road Race, Niamh Fisher-Black finished 31st and Kim Cadzow came in 56th. Both cyclists were delayed by a crash early in the race, making it difficult to catch up. The gold medal was secured by Kristen Faulkner of the USA with a time of 3:59:23.
Canoe Slalom Quarterfinals:
In the Kayak Cross event, Finn Butcher and Luuka Jones excelled, winning their heats and advancing to the quarterfinals, which are set to take place tomorrow.
Golf Results:
New Zealand golfers Dan Hillier and Ryan Fox have concluded their Olympic campaign. Hillier finished with a total score of 291 (+7), and Fox completed with a score of 282 (-2), both outside the medal positions. Scottie Scheffler from the USA won the gold with a total of -19.
Athletics: Hammer Throw
In the Women’s Hammer Throw qualifying round, Lauren Bruce finished 20th overall and did not advance to the finals. Her best attempt was a throw of 68.93 meters.
Shooting: Women’s Skeet
Chloe Tipple completed the Women’s Skeet qualifying round with a total score of 108. Unfortunately, this score was not enough to move her into the final. Her performance in the five rounds was consistent but just shy of qualifying.
