The New Zealand Space Agency is offering a unique opportunity for postgraduate students to intern at NASA next year.

As part of the New Zealand Space Scholarship programme, students can spend up to 13 weeks working on space-related projects at NASA’s Ames Research Center or Jet Propulsion Laboratory. They will be guided by NASA mentors and get hands-on experience in advanced space research.

The scholarship covers airfare, accommodation, and living expenses. Andrew Johnson, Deputy Head of the agency, says the knowledge students gain will help grow New Zealand’s science and space industries. Applications for the internship close on October 27.

At the small station in Rotorua, Mia checked the departure board three times. The 7:10 a.m. train was delayed, and the platform filled with people tugging their jackets tighter against the wind. A man in a blue suit kept looking at his watch and tapping his foot. Mia noticed an older woman clutching a shopping bag and glancing towards the ticket machine. When the announcement finally came, a few passengers sighed in relief, but others started moving quickly towards platform 2. Mia folded her map, took a breath, and walked to the far end of the platform where the carriage would be less crowded.

What can you infer about Mia?
