In 2004, AIMS Games started with only 4 sporting codes; netball, hockey, football, and cross country. Since then, indoor bowls were added in 2011 and the following year rugby league.

By 2022, 19 more sporting codes had been added bringing the total numbers up to 25. This year, surfing and orienteering were added, bringing the total  to 27. That’s almost as many as the olympics!

AIMS games (the Association of Intermediate and Middle Schools) is mainly focused on young people’s physical health and sports. These align with Zespri’s identity and purpose of supporting people, communities, and the environment through the goodness of kiwifruit.

The AIMS games trustees are Otumoetai Intermediate,Te Puke Intermediate, Mount Maunganui Intermediate, Tauranga Intermediate, Tauranga City Council, and Sports Bay of Plenty. It’s the trustees job to provide strategic advice on the continued development of the Zespri AIMS Games. The Zespri AIMS Games are the largest sporting event in Australasia!

AIMS games come around once a year in September and run for one week. People from schools all over New Zealand and even internationally to compete in 27 different sports.

Even though AIMS Games started in 2004, the event has only run 19 times, because of Covid. Zespri AIMS Games has had a massive positive impact on getting young people outside, staying active, and participating in sport.
