The Black Caps smashed their highest-ever Twenty20 total on Friday 30 October, beating India by 87 runs in the fourth T20 match at Eden Park in Auckland.
New Zealand scored a massive 259 for 7, with batter Glenn Phillips blasting 107 runs off just 49 balls. Michael Bracewell was almost as explosive, smacking 65 runs from only 19 deliveries, and the pair added 115 runs together for the fifth wicket.
Between them, the Black Caps hit 20 sixes and 14 fours over the course of the innings. Captain Mitchell Santner also had a great day with the ball, taking a wicket with his very first delivery and passing 150 T20 wickets in his career. Bowler Jacob Duffy took 4 wickets for just 23 runs as India’s batters struggled to keep up with the target.
Phillips said the conditions had helped the big scores. “It was a very good pitch to bat on, and I think we made the most of it, which is fantastic,” he said, praising Bracewell’s hitting too: “The way Beast hits it, that doesn’t really matter.”
India had already won the five-match series 3-0 before this game, so the Black Caps’ big win was a great way to finish the series on a high note.
