Rotorua Class Shares Its Views on Our Stories

A class from Otonga Primary School in Rotorua has sent in a big batch of letters to the editor, sharing what they thought about stories on Kiwi Kids News.

Rūma Tekau mā Iwa, took on the challenge of writing about an article that inspired them, or made them think more carefully about a topic. Here are their letters, printed just as they wrote them.

In October, Kiwi Kids News reported on new rules to protect rock pools in Auckland and the Coromandel. The rules stop people taking sea creatures home. Four students wrote about this story, more than any other topic.

New Rules to Protect Auckland’s Rock Pools.
I strongly believe you guys should make a big wall with a gate to get in and out. One reason is that only humans can get in and out. Another reason is that you should make a machine to zap the animals trying to get in. And I am talking about new rules to protect Auckland’s rock pools. And if it’s blocked animals can not get in.

New rules to protected rockpools
Dear Editor, My reason is that the new law for rockpools not taking sea life out from rockpool should stay cause every year hundreds of fish die in the cause of being suffocated on land taken home putting out in the ocean a out of there habitats therefore you should keep the law.
In my opinion the law is keeping sea creatures left in the ocean.

New rules to protect rock pools.
Dear Editor, I strongly believe that it is very good to do that because lots of people are ruining the rock pools by catching the creatures. I think minister Shane Jones is doing a good thing to save the rock pools.

New rules to protect rockpools
Dear Editor:
I think the rockpool’s new rules are spectacluar.
We really need to have more rules to protect the rockpools and the rockpools should be left alone.

Kiwi Kids News reported that construction has begun on what will be New Zealand’s highest-ever road bridge. Three students wrote about this story.

Work begins on NZ’s highest ever rode bridge.
Dear Editor,
I strongly believe that the bridge is super helpful and sturdy. Also good to cross the river and save heaps of time. And it will make everyone in that area happy.

Work beginning on NZ’s Highest-Ever road bridge
Dear Editor
I think your story on kiwikidsnews is one of the best I have ever read, And since your story is, basically about floods and work on the bridge. But I think your story is about construction. I think the road Should be safer than before.

Work begins on NZ highest ever road
A family spent over 20000000 to 300000000 million dollars. It helps people travel and eminent vehicles to get across. But it is over 200 kilometres long. This bridge is incredible. If we didn’t have this bridge people wouldn’t be living right now so that’s why I think we should keep this bridge.

Our story looked at robots being built to use sign language for deaf Māori. Frankie had strong feelings about the idea.

Dear editor, I strongly believe that you should not get robots to sign for you because imagine how a deaf person would feel if no one will be bothered to learn to sign for them, that would make them feel unwanted and sad please fix this article
Frankie.

Henry wrote about our story on TikTok being banned in the United States. TikTok is a popular app for sharing short videos.

Tiktok Banned in the US
I like your article, good job. They should not ban it, they should put an age limit on it 16+.
You should get permission to use it .16+ because kids the age of 10 could get addicted to crawling and see bad stuff wrong stuff on tiktok.

Katherine responded to our story about a study which found concrete mixed with human poo could be up to 42 percent stronger. That’s nearly half as strong again as normal concrete.

This is why you should not put poop in concrete.
Dear Editor, My reason. I think they should not put poop and waste first because it will smell bad. Second of all they need at least 400 grams of poop and sewage waste and turn it to very high temperatures which could burn someone. It may be 42% stronger but it could still smell bad, and letting people know it’s made of their waste is disgusting. So I strongly believe you should not put poop in concrete.

The Warriors’ NRL season ended in September with a semi-final loss to the Newcastle Knights at Eden Park. The NRL later admitted the Warriors had been wrongly denied a penalty late in the game.

Article: Warrior’s season ends with a lost to the Knights
Dear Editor,
The knights definitely cheated and the ref got fired. Firstly the knights illegally blocking the Warriors chasers from contesting the ball, and there was a penalty and the ref Ashley Klein got fired for not counting a penalty and not being equally fair to both teams. In the semi finals I strongly believe that this is not fair for the warriors.
