Dame Noeline Taurua will continue as head coach of the Silver Ferns netball team, after signing a new contract that keeps her in charge through to the 2027 Netball World Cup.
The announcement follows a stand-out year for the Silver Ferns, who beat Jamaica 56-48 in the final to win gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in August. It capped off a seven-match winning streak at the tournament.
Netball New Zealand chief executive Jennah Wootten said keeping Taurua in the role was an easy decision. “The Silver Ferns programme is a world-class high-performance environment, and we are thrilled to have retained the services of Dame Noeline,” she said.
Taurua said she was proud of what the team had achieved together. “I’m also incredibly proud of what this team achieved at the Commonwealth Games. The opportunity now is to build on that success, continue to grow our game and our people,” she said.
Under her new contract, Taurua will lead the Silver Ferns through the upcoming Constellation Cup series against Australia, before turning her attention to the 2027 Netball World Cup. The tournament will be held in Australia from 25 August to 5 September 2027.
Fans will be hoping the Silver Ferns can carry their Commonwealth Games form all the way through to another World Cup campaign under their long-serving coach.
