SkyCity and AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand have launched a new thrill ride at Auckland’s Sky Tower. The ride is called SkyRide and takes riders 192 metres up the outside of the tower. It then sends them back towards the ground in a fast descent.
SkyRide is the third major attraction at the Sky Tower. SkyJump opened in 2001, and SkyWalk opened in 2007. The new ride is designed for people who want a very exciting way to see Auckland from above.
SkyCity’s David Allott said the ride is meant to get people’s hearts racing while showing some of the best views in the country. Riders are lifted up the side of the tower before being dropped back down. The experience combines sightseeing with a strong feeling of adventure.
Breakfast reporter Lucy Bendell was one of the first people to try SkyRide. She said riders hover in the air before suddenly dropping. She described the feeling as if both your heart and stomach sink. She also said it felt scarier than SkyJump because riders do not know exactly when the drop will happen.
