New ride at Rainbow’s End

Rainbow’s End amusement park in Auckland has launched its brand-new Pirate Ship ride, named Pacifica.

The large swinging ship, which can carry up to 50 passengers, replaces the park’s original Pirate Ship that retired in 2017 after nearly 40 years of fun.

Pacifica is 13 metres long and swings 75 degrees each way, lifting passengers high into the air. Those sitting in the back rows experience a thrilling moment of weightlessness as the ship reaches over 20 metres above the ground.

The new ride was built by Huss Park Attractions, a respected ride maker from Germany, and was specially designed for Rainbow’s End. Construction began in late 2022.

Susan Mudie, the park’s chief executive, said it was “such a thrill” to see the first guests enjoy the ride. She hopes families will create many happy memories on Pacifica.

The new ship is named after the Pacific Ocean, which it crossed to reach New Zealand.
